The focus of the 2023 Annual Energy Summit is on the opportunities that exist in the just energy transition and emerging low carbon energy sector in South Africa. The IRP 2019 advocates for an energy mix to ensure that the country has energy security, including ambitious targets for renewable energy. Low carbon technologies such as solar, wind, hydro power, pumped storage and batteries and green hydrogen are integral to achieving our decarbonization targets. South Africa has some important competitive advantage that enable it to ramp up renewable energy capacity and technology to that will provide energy security to all South Africans, as well as export to the rest of Africa and the world. This process must be done in partnership with young entrepreneurs to enable transformation and economic growth.
